Our 2017-2018 Visits

Our visits give members the opportunity to visit places of interest that are not always accessible to the public, and to provide additional information and insight difficult to gain when visiting as an individual.

We may arrange visits to local galleries, historic buildings and performances at various theatres. These trips give people a chance to get to know each other better in an informal atmosphere. Although we are restricted by our geographical situation in the south west corner of the country, we may arrange several visits a year, mainly day trips within Cornwall and Devon, but will also consider visits over several days, either to somewhere in Britain or overseas.

Some of the visits are not organised by us, in which case they would be shown as such, for example 'South West Area Event'. The Visits Secretary would be able to provide information to help you, with all events.

The Optional Play
Duchess of Malfi
In an attempt to prevent the fiercely independent Duchess from marrying the man she loves, her corrupt brothers go on a disturbing quest to destroy her. Remarkable for its inventive and grotesque violence, yet full of dark humour, this violent revenge tragedy asks how anyone can survive in a world where masculinity has become toxic.

The Visits
The Bishop’s Palace and accompanying Bishops House at Wells in Somerset, is adjacent to Wells Cathedral and has been the home of the Bishops of the Diocese of Bath and Wells for 800 years. It has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade I listed building.

Knightshayes (NT) has acres of glorious garden and park, surrounding a spectacular Gothic Revival house, Knightshayes is the complete country gentleman's dream. The house is a rare example of the work of William Burges, whose lavish designs have always inspired extremes in opinion. Full of quirks and curiosities, it is a house of many faces.
